Cumbria Farmed Dexter Beef

As many of you regular customers will know, love to support smaller-scale local farming at Dales Butchers we and we’re delighted to tell you that we have recently managed to source some fabulous Dexter beef.

Farmed by Martin Foster, it comes from a small herd of around 25 Dexter cattle which he rears free-range and grass-fed on his farm in Carlisle, Cumbria. Therefore, due to the small size of his herd, this beef is only available from time to time and  we highly recommend keeping an eye on our social media feeds for updates of when this occurs.

About Dexter Beef

The Dexter breed of cattle originated in Ireland and was brought to the UK in the early 1800s. Dexters are a hardy breed, and they thrive in both cold and warm climates. They are also known for their docile nature, which makes them easy to handle.

Why Dexter Beef?

Dexter beef is a breed of cattle that is known for its quality and taste. It is a smaller breed of cattle, which means that the meat is lean and has less marbling than other types of beef. However, it is commonly known in foodie circles that Dexter beef is some of the tastiest around and really good to eat.

Healthy Option

Being so lean means that the meat from Dexter cattle is lower in saturated fat and a good, healthier choice for those who are watching their weight and/or cholesterol levels. The meat from Dexter beef is also high in protein and iron, which are essential nutrients for our bodies.

Grass-fed and free-range

Grass-fed, this Dexter beef has a unique flavour character with a rich, beefy taste that’s unlike other beef. So, if you’re looking for a delicious, healthier option for your next steak dinner, give this Dexter Beef a try while you can.
